Chairman D.Razumkov, M.Lajcak canvass further VRU-OSCE collaboration

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

Dmytro Razumkov and Miroslav Lajcak discussed issues of further interaction of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the OSCE

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov met with the incumbent Chairperson of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak.

Participants of the meeting discussed the prospects of further cooperation with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine assured Miroslav Lajcak of further effective cooperation with the OSCE in protecting Ukraine's interests.

Dmytro Razumkov observed that first steps have already been taken to resolve the situation in the Donbas. He also said that there had been a point-to-point ceasefire, separation of forces and heavy weapons, and hoped that the fire would be stopped all through the front line.

The speaker of parliament noted that lots of efforts are presently being made to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine and called for extension of the Normandy format, which seems to be the most effective and feasible for implementation at the moment.

Regarding the local elections in the occupied territories, Dmytro Razumkov stressed that the said election is still too soon to be talked about – as a preliminary there should be ensured necessary security conditions, a stable truce and withdrawal of foreign troops, together with renewal of the Russia-Ukraine state border needing to be then re-inforced with appropriate frontier control measures.

"Returning of Ukrainian border guards to the boundary between Ukraine and Russia will facilitate the conflict resolution," he averred.  "So far, in terms of democracy, there is no possibility to ensure free will of Ukrainian citizens and unhampered activity of public organizations throughout this territory".

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is convinced that there are much more things needing to be done to return Ukrainian citizens back from the country’s east - both physically and mentally.

Miroslav Lajcak noted that the OSCE is prepared to continue providing effective assistance to Ukrainians and does want to see Ukraine in peace and security.

The OSCE Chairperson emphasized that there are many platforms that could help end the war in the east and act in the interests of Ukrainian citizens.

"We are willing, as an organization and as a country, to render aid in all areas that would contribute to making people's lives easier," he underscored in conclusion.
