D.Razumkov holds meeting with Finnish President S.Niinisto aiming to soon boost mutual ties

“Mutual interaction between Ukraine and the Finnish Democratic Republic will become more effective,” -- Dmytro Razumkov, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov met with the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinisto. The parties discussed deepening of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the Finnish Republic.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the Finnish people for their constant and steady support of Ukraine in its temerarious fight for sovereignty, restoration of the territorial integrity, as well as for maintaining sanctions against the Russian Federation as a deterrent of its ongoing aggression.

He also thanked for the economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed his hope that it would become more effective and productive.

Dmytro Razumkov informed his interlocutor about the state of play in Ukraine’s home affairs and the specifics of the parliamentary election process, and noted that the Verkhovna Rada has to labour quickly to ensure effective work of all branches of government.

The Chairman noted that Ukraine is currently facing lots of external and internal challenges that need an immediate response. "Among them is an internal war - the fight against corruption," he stressed, responding to Sauli Niinosto's words about the conditions for having confidence in authorities.

The President of the Republic of Finland recalled the terrible pages of history of his people during the Winter War with the USSR and declared a close cooperation upon the sanction policy against the Russian Federation. The sanctions can only be lifted or weakened provided that Ukraine is given freedom, the President stressed.

Sauli Niinisto spoke in favor of introducing large-scale economic development plans for both countries and noted that the Finnish industrial sector is of great interest in Ukraine and is out to deepen the mutual cooperation.

In his opinion, one of the most promising directions of such cooperation in the very near future could be restoration of the waterway from Finland to the Black Sea through Ukraine’s territory.
