“We highly appreciate Slovenia's support in the fight for restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty," – Olena Kondratiuk

The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Simona Leskovar.

During the meeting urgent issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

Olena Kondratiuk thanked Slovenia for its consistent and systematic position in supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and opposing the Russian armed aggression.

“We value our partnership very much.  Slovenia has repeatedly co-authored important resolutions of international organizations for the good of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian politician said. The vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada stressed that international support in counteracting the aggressor is extremely important for Ukraine at the moment. She also condemned the return of the Russian delegation to the PACE. "We are protecting not only Ukraine’s interests - we are defending the Council of Europe's position and the values of the European Union as well," Olena Kondratiuk stressed, then addressing Slovenia with a proposal to join in the PACE’s Baltic Plus Group.

The vice speaker stressed the Verkhovna Rada’s willingness and commitment to enhance dialogue and cooperation between the parliamentary delegations of both countries, in particular in the framework of international organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Olena Kondratiuk marked Slovenia's clear position regarding further rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU. She expressed her hope for the continued support of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration by official Ljubljana.

In particular, Olena Kondratiuk thanked the Slovenian side for its assistance in organizing the rehabilitation treatment for Ukrainian children whose parents were killed or injured as a result of hostilities in eastern Ukraine.

The vice speaker of parliament informed S. Leskovar, that it is for the first time in the parliament’s history that 30% of women ‘have fallen into ranks’ of the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. She then invited Slovenian parliamentarians to participate in the coming Ukrainian Women's Congress on December 10-11 in Kyiv.

At the same time, Simona Leskovar noted that Slovenia is a stalwart friend, a reliable partner and an ally of Ukraine. “We fully support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This is our clear and fundamental position, which we always voice out to other non-EU countries, including Russia,” S. Leskovar emphasized. She also noted that Ukraine can count on broad support and cooperation during Slovenia's presidency of the EU Council.

“We sincerely seek to share with you our experience of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Slovenia does support Ukraine’s reforms and your Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” Simona Leskovar highlighted in conclusion.
