Ukraine, Latvia on same side to oppose toxic propaganda and hybrid challenges

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

"Ukraine and Latvia are interested in expanding cooperation and exchanging their experience in the field of security and defence," -- Iryna Herashchenko

On June 20, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian politician thanked Latvia for the   sustained support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the assistance in rendering medical treatment to Ukrainian servicemen.

The Latvian minister assured that Riga was ready to continue the programmes of medical assistance to the military of Ukraine, including psychological therapy.  He also expressed his hopes for intensifying cooperation on the issue after the ministry on veterans’ affairs would be launched.

During the meeting, Iryna Herashchenko also dwelt at length upon the humanitarian and security situation in eastern Ukraine. In addition, there were discussed the issues of the occupied Crimea and the human rights violations - in particular, the prohibition of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People by the occupation authorities, the mass arrests of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians for political reasons. The First Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine then spoke about the efforts that were being made at all levels to liberate Ukrainians, including the highest one.

The politician also informed about the next working plan ahead of the Parliament. On June 21, the body is to consider the bill on the supreme anticorruption court in Ukraine and a draft law on the national security.

In his turn, Edgars Rinkevics assured the Ukrainian side in the strong support of Ukraine's steps in establishing sustainable peace in the Donbas, and expressed his solidarity in countering the Russian aggression.

There were also ample deliberations aimed to elaborate a common position as to the pervading poisonous propaganda and the hybrid challenges the countries had faced.
