NATIONAL AGENCY ON CORRUPTION PREVENTION HEAD REQUESTS AN AUDIT Natalya Korchack, Head of the National Agency on corruption prevention, had the floor at the Ukrainian Parliament to report on the work of the agency. Among the major issues she mentioned was the technical failure of the electronic registry. Ms Korchack asked the Parliament to create an assessment commission to audit the Agency and its technical facilities and proposed to include American and European experts, in particular, representatives of the US and EU Embassies in Ukraine to the commission.

 

PUBLIC HEALTH REFORM CONTINUES

The law, adopted in the second reading, targets healthcare institutions and, in particular, allows transferring those under state supervision into municipal ownership. This measure will allow ensuring better financial management especially in cases where an institution is financed from the national budget.

Additionally, the law simplifies the procedure of medical service contracts for the general public.

 

AMENDMENTS IN FAVOR OF PERSONS NEARING RETIREMENT AGE

The amendments to the Labor Code passed the second reading in the Verkhovna Rada last week. The document provides people who have three and less years before retirement with certain privileges, including protection against discrimination in case of job cuts or enterprise reorganization.

 

BY THE RIVERS OF BABYLON

Amendments of the law on the rehabilitation of victims of political repressions passed the first reading in the Verkhovna Rada. These persons who were repressed and rehabilitated are to get damage for pain and suffering in amount of one minimum official wage ($118,5) for each month of imprisonment.

 

AN UPRIGHT MAN HAS THOUGHT FOR THE LIFE OF HIS BEAST

The law aimed at strengthening the punishment for animal abuse was adopted in the first reading last week. Penalties for animal abuse are to be increased up to 200-500 non-taxable minimum incomes ($125-315).
